WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) and Congresswoman Norma Torres (CA-35) introduced a bipartisan resolution to recognize August 1, 2023, as National Night Out. For decades, National Night Out has brought communities together to promote first-responder partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. National Night Out encourages neighborhoods nationwide to come together and enhance the relationship between law enforcement and the community.

“A strong, open relationship between communities and law enforcement is paramount to public safety,” said Congressman Fitzpatrick. “I am so grateful to our men and women in blue in my district and across the country who bring our neighborhoods together by organizing and participating in National Night Out. Events like these are critical to a flourishing relationship between law enforcement and members of our community, and I am proud to partner with Congresswoman Torres on this resolution recognizing National Night Out.”

“As a former 9-1-1 dispatcher and mother of a police officer, I understand how important it is to build trust and partnerships between law enforcement professionals and the communities they serve,” said Congresswoman Torres. “I reintroduced this bipartisan resolution with Congressman Fitzpatrick because National Night Out is an important opportunity to forge and strengthen the bonds between police and community members.”

“Thank you to Congresswoman Torres and Congressman Fitzpatrick for introducing this important resolution,” said Matt Peskin, Executive Director of the National Association of Town Watch. “This is the 40th year that citizens and law enforcement agencies across the country have celebrated National Night Out. Millions of Americans come together on this night to build, safer more caring communities.”
